My name is Blayke Barlow and I am 15 years old. I began my shooting career with archery through our 4H team. However, after 3 years of archery I participated in an event that included shooting trap. I practiced 2 times before the competition with my Dad, and the day of. I ended up shooting 5 out of 30 targets. Somehow that was enough to make me fall in love with shotgun sports. I compete in NSCA, SCTP, 4H, etc. When I began shooting my first competition, the shotgun I started with is the Syren Elos N2 Elevate. I enjoy shooting trap, skeet, 5 stand, and bunker, however, sporting clays has always been my favorite. Through shooting I have met so many amazing people and I’ve made so many great friends. I can’t imagine my life without the shooting sports and can’t wait to continue on with it throughout my life.

What’s your advice on getting new lady shooters involved?

Getting ladies to start shooting could be difficult as shooting is thought of as a male dominant sport. However, I believe shooting has taught me so much about discipline and empowerment that I think every women should experience and learn. My advice is to just go for it because you never know what you could be missing out on. I recommend finding a local club and an instructor to learn the basics of shooting to start out.

What knowledge can you share that would make ladies better shooters?

My biggest tip is to find a good gun that fits you and ammo with a light load. Another important thing in shooting is to surround yourself with people you like and are comfortable around.
