I was given a shotgun for a wedding gift in 1988 and I didn’t know one thing about shotguns or clay targets. In the early 90’s, I went to a weekend workshop held for women that was sponsored by Texas Parks and Wildlife and I enrolled in Shotgun 101. I learned a few basics and the one major thing was that my gun didn’t fit. With minor gun fit issues resolved, I participated in my first Ladies Charity event a few weeks later and broke 8 out of 50 targets and was hooked. After that, I shot recreationally for years, learning the ropes. I purchased another gun and promptly paid $900 for a gun fit. Then two things happed in 2005, I was asked to chair the Ladies Charity Clay Event in Houston, and rejoined NSCA and was asked to complete the unexpired term of Secretary for the Texas Sporting Clays Association. I ran successfully for 2 additional terms, ending in 2010. During those years, I took my Level I Instructors Certification, made many industry contacts, competitor friends and became deeply involved in providing women with shooting opportunities through the Women’s Recreational Shooting Association (WRSA) and chairing all their events. In 2012, our Houston group separated from WRSA, and I charted Lady Clay Shooters. I am President and official Chair. We host one large fundraiser each Spring that supports a local children’s charity that serves low income special needs children. We also host a Summer League, Fun Shoots, instructional clinics and one care-cleaning-and-equipment workshop that is scheduled for the Fall/Winter. I am excited about this new adventure life has presented to me, Syren and I fit like a hand in a glove.
